Kiambu County Assembly Majority Leader Godfrey Mucheke now claims he was the intended target of an alleged attack in Kikuyu Constituency that left him hospitalised.

Mucheke said he was injured after suspected goons hurled stones at the vehicle he was travelling in moments after leaving a bursary event hosted by Governor Kimani Wamatangi.

According to the MCA, the attackers singled out his vehicle, which was hit by what he described as a “huge stone”, causing him to lose consciousness for about 30 minutes.

“I suffered head injuries, and I strongly believe I was the target because only the vehicle carrying me was attacked immediately after we started leaving the venue. At that time, the governor was still at the function,” Mucheke said in a statement to K24 Digital.

He added that the matter has been reported to the police and recorded at Kikuyu Police Station under Occurrence Book number 76, with the case registered as assault.

Mucheke has since been discharged from the hospital after suffering head injuries, as investigations into the incident continue.

The attack comes amid rising political tensions in Kiambu County as early campaigns for the 2027 gubernatorial race gather momentum.

Governor Wamatangi and Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a are among the leading contenders for the seat and have intensified their political activities across the county.

Observers warn that the increasing political rivalry has begun spilling into public functions, raising concerns over the safety of leaders and residents attending such events.

Police have not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
