Kenya Power lists areas facing Monday blackout

Kenyans living in parts of Nairobi and Nyeri counties will have to plan their day around an eight-hour blackout on Monday, July 20, 2026. Kenya Power announced that the interruption is necessary to allow for routine network maintenance and system upgrades.
The electricity provider shared the update on its official X account, warning residents to prepare for the temporary interruption.
Kenya Power stated, “The listed areas will be under planned power maintenance tomorrow (20th July 2026).”
According to the official timetable released by the firm, the lights will be switched off from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. across all the affected locations.
Nairobi locations on the schedule
In the Nairobi region, the maintenance team will focus on Catherine Dereva Road and the wider Pipeline area. This outage will affect several local businesses, schools, and hospitals operating within the neighbourhood.
Key medical facilities caught up in the Monday schedule include Scion Hospital, Penda Medical Centre Embakasi, and Mukuru Health Centre. Educational institutions like Swaminarayan School and Mukuru Educational Centre will also have to run without electricity.
Residents and business owners in V Club, Joharis, part of Villafranca Estate, and Kings Millenium need to make early arrangements.
Other areas listed for the blackout include St. Bhakita, Takbir Distributers, Bamba 70, and Unique Estate. The power cut will also hit Seyani Brothers, Kenya Builders, Honey Suckle, and King of Judah Ministries.
Kenya Power added that customers living adjacent to these specific lines should also expect supply cuts.
Nyeri areas to face outages
Up in the Mt. Kenya region, several places in Nyeri County will face the same eight-hour power interruption. The maintenance work will mainly affect Kahigaini, Ithenguri, and Kiwandi areas within the exact same time bracket of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Specific localities going without electricity include Kahigaini, Kiunyu PCEA, and the area around Kwa Chief. Businesses and households in Ithenguri, Chorio, and Kigwandi Market must also prepare for the outage.
The network maintenance will extend to Kigwandi Coffee Factory, Karurumo Market, and neighbouring customers.
Kenya Power usually conducts these regular maintenance checks to replace aging equipment, fix technical faults, and connect new users to the national grid. The company has asked the affected customers to remain patient as technicians work on the lines to improve supply reliability.
