Kenya Power announces blackout in parts of Kisii on Sunday, July 5

Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions in parts of Kisii County this Sunday, July 5, 2026. The utility firm noted that the scheduled blackout is part of routine network maintenance aimed at improving electricity supply and reliability in the South Nyanza region.

The power company alerted residents via its official communication channels on Saturday evening, July 4, 2026, giving households and traders ample time to prepare.

Specific locations facing the blackout

The scheduled outage will heavily impact Magena and Nyangusu areas within Kisii County. Several trading centres, schools, and factories are on the list, meaning everyday business operations will be disrupted for the better part of the day.

Specifically, business operators in Magena Market and Nyangusu town will have to look for alternative power options. Other areas listed in the official notice include Getai Primary School, Bendere, Kenyoro, Ritembu, and Rianyachabera.

The blackout will also affect operations at the Mara Tea Factory, which could delay the processing of green leaf delivered by local farmers.

Learning institutions like Magena Boys High School, Riobonyo, St. Theresa Secondary School, and Oganda will also be in the dark, alongside all adjacent customers in those neighbourhoods.

Maintenance timeline and customer support

According to the official timetable released by the electricity distributor, the maintenance work will start at 9:00 AM and last until 5:00 PM. This eight-hour window means businesses like salons, cyber cafes, refrigeration units, and welding shops will need to plan their Sunday schedules carefully to avoid losses.

Kenya Power has urged residents to treat all power lines and electrical installations as live during the interruption period since power can be restored earlier than expected.

For any urgent queries, complaints, or power status checks, customers can easily dial the USSD code *977# on their mobile phones. Alternatively, they can contact the National Contact Centre on (+254) 703 070 707 or 97771, or send a quick email to [email protected] for direct customer assistance.

On Friday July 3, 2026, the utility company undertakes scheduled network maintenance in parts of Nandi and Nyeri Counties.

In a public notice issued on Thursday, July 2, 2026, Kenya Power said the planned outage forms part of routine maintenance aimed at improving the reliability and stability of electricity supply across its distribution network.

“Good Evening. The listed areas will be under planned power maintenance tomorrow (3RD July 2026). The interruption is part of network maintenance. We regret any inconvenience that may occur during the operations,” the company stated.
