Kenya Power announces August 1 planned power outage in parts of Nyamira County

Residents and businesses in parts of Nyamira County will experience a scheduled power outage on Saturday, August 1, 2026, after Kenya Power announced planned electricity maintenance aimed at improving the reliability of its distribution network.
According to the utility company, the planned power maintenance will affect customers in Kemera and Gianchore in the South Nyanza Region from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm.
The electricity interruption will affect Tombe T/Fact, Kemera Mkt, Manga Sisters, Nyambaria High, Gianchore T/Fact, Tinga Mkt, Nyaikuro Sec, Miriri Sec, Magombo Mkt and adjacent customers.
Kenya Power said the temporary outage is necessary to allow engineers to carry out network maintenance that will enhance the stability and reliability of electricity supply in the affected areas.
The scheduled maintenance is expected to last for eight and a half hours, with electricity supply expected to resume after the work is completed and the network is confirmed safe for reconnection.
In a statement on Friday, July 31, 2026, accompanying the maintenance notice, Kenya Power assured customers that the outage is part of routine improvements to the electricity network.
“Good evening. The listed areas will be under planned power maintenance tomorrow (1st August 2026). The interruption is part of network maintenance. We regret any inconvenience that may occur during the operations,” the company said.
The planned power outage comes as Kenya Power continues carrying out routine maintenance across the country to upgrade electricity infrastructure, replace ageing equipment and reduce the risk of unexpected blackouts. Such maintenance also helps improve the quality and reliability of power supply for homes, schools, factories, businesses and other institutions.
Residents and businesses in the affected parts of Nyamira County are advised to plan by completing activities that require electricity before 8.30 am. Customers should also switch off electrical appliances during the outage and unplug sensitive electronic equipment to protect it from possible power surges when electricity is restored.
Kenya Power regularly publishes planned maintenance schedules to give customers sufficient notice of upcoming electricity interruptions. While the company expects power to be restored by 5.00 pm on Saturday, August 1, 2026, restoration may occur earlier or later depending on the progress and safety of the maintenance work.
The latest maintenance notice is expected to help residents, schools, traders and institutions in Kemera, Gianchore and neighbouring areas prepare for the temporary electricity interruption and minimise disruption to their daily activities.
