Kenya Met predicts rains and chilly nights in 5-day forecast for Aug 29–Sep 2

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a five-day weather forecast valid from August 29, 2026, to September 2, 2026.
According to the weather report, rainfall is expected in a few counties. Most regions across the country will experience sunny intervals during the day, followed by partly cloudy conditions at night.
Light rains expected in Central and Coastal regions
Counties in the Central Highlands and surrounding areas, including Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Machakos, Kitui, and Nyeri, will experience morning light rains on Monday, August 31, 2026.
Kirinyaga County is projected to record moderate showers on Sunday night, August 30, 2026, followed by light showers on Monday night, August 31, 2026.
In the Coastal region, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, and Lamu counties will record morning and afternoon light showers between Saturday, August 29, 2026, and Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Daytime maximum temperatures along the Coast will remain warm, reaching between 28°C and 33°C. In Northeastern Kenya, light morning rains are forecasted for Wajir on Sunday, August 30, 2026, and Monday, August 31, 2026.
Garissa and Marsabit will receive light morning rains on Monday, August 31, 2026, while Mandera will see light rains on Tuesday morning, September 1, 2026.
Chilly nights and high day temperatures elsewhere
While daytime conditions remain largely sunny, nighttime temperatures will drop significantly in high-altitude areas. Nyandarua County will record minimum temperatures as low as 4°C, while Nyeri and Samburu will drop to 5°C and 8°C respectively.
Narok County will also experience cold nights, with minimum temperatures dipping to 7°C on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
Conversely, parts of Northern Kenya will experience high maximum daytime temperatures. Mandera will record maximum temperatures of up to 38°C, while Turkana and Wajir will see maximum temperatures reaching 37°C and 36°C respectively.
Counties within the Lake Victoria Basin and Western Kenya, including Kisumu, Kakamega, Bungoma, and Busia, will witness sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy skies at night throughout the forecast period.
