Carrick hints at when Man Utd new signing Carlos Baleba could make his debut

Manchester United boss Michael Carrick has spoken out on the progress of midfielder Carlos Baleba, revealing when the Cameroonian international could make his debut.
Speaking to MUFC on Saturday, September 19, 2026, the Englishman stated that the player was part of the team’s training session in the week ahead of his potential first involvement for his new club.
Sidelined by injury
The summer addition from Brighton has not played since signing for the club as he nurses a niggling ankle injury.
“Yeah, he’s desperate to get started,” admitted Carrick. “He’s bouncing around the place! It’s not always easy, I think, when you come into a new club and you’re not right fully in with the group, with the training.”
The gaffer hinted that he is looking to integrate the player into the team, alluding to a possibility of the star making the squad for the trip to London, having made tremendous progress in recent days.
“Well, I say back in, actually introducing him into the group. So he has done a bit of training this week, and, hopefully, we’ll get Luke [Shaw] back in and around it this week and look forward to a strong game on the weekend.”
“But he is dealt with that ever so well, I have to say. He has got great personality, and he’s full of enthusiasm around the place and pushing to get back as quickly as possible. So it’s great to have him back.
United eyeing response at Fulham
The gaffer also revealed that the squad remain in an upbeat mood as they seek to overturn a run of back-to-back losses. United suffered a league defeat to Manchester City in the Manchester derby before a midweek collapse after going 2-0 up against Brighton & Hove Albion in Carabao Cup round three saw pressure piling up on the gaffer.
“We are looking good. Everyone is up and running, you know? Over the last week or so, pretty much everyone has played and been fit, and we’re trying to get Carlos back in.”
The former Middlesbrough coach had in the past spoken highly of the Cameroonian star, stating that his addition to the club will give them more depth and options in the midfield.
United travels to face Fulham on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at 6:30 pm.
