KeNHA announces traffic restoration along Iten–Kabarnet road
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the restoration of traffic flow along the Iten–Kabarnet Road near Koloi after a temporary disruption caused by a landslide.
In a public notice issued on May 5, 2026, the authority confirmed that normal traffic movement has resumed following clearance works on the affected section.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify motorists and the public that traffic flow along the Iten – Kabarnet Road near Koloi has been restored,” the agency noted.
KeNHA explained that the road had been blocked after a landslide triggered by ongoing heavy rainfall across the country. The incident disrupted transport along the busy stretch, forcing a temporary halt to movement as emergency response teams worked on reopening the road.
The authority said the restoration follows coordinated efforts to clear debris and make the road safe for motorists using the route.
Traffic flow restored
KeNHA confirmed that traffic has now been fully restored along the affected section near Koloi, allowing vehicles to move normally once again.
However, the authority has urged motorists to remain cautious as the area continues to stabilise following the weather-related disruption.
Drivers have also been advised to follow instructions from police officers and traffic marshals stationed along the route to ensure safety.

While announcing the reopening, KeNHA cautioned road users to remain alert, especially in areas prone to landslides due to continued rainfall in parts of the country.
The authority emphasised the importance of careful driving, particularly along hilly sections of the Iten–Kabarnet road.
“Motorists are advised to continue exercising caution and to strictly adhere to instructions issued by police officers and traffic marshals on site to ensure their safety as conditions stabilise,” KeNHA cautioned.
KeNHA thanked motorists and residents for their patience and cooperation during the disruption period, noting that their understanding helped smooth the restoration process.
The authority reiterated its commitment to maintaining safe and reliable road networks across the country despite weather-related challenges.
“KeNHA appreciates the cooperation, patience, and understanding demonstrated by motorists during this period,” the agency wrote.
