KCSE 2025: List of schools publicly celebrating getting over 10 A plains
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has released the 2025 KCSE results, with a total of 1,932 candidates scoring straight A’s in the exam, while 270,000 candidates achieved C+ and above, qualifying them for direct university entry.
Education CS Julius Migos Ogamba on Friday, January 9, 2026, said 993,226 students sat for the exams, up from 962,512 in 2024, marking an increase of 30,714 candidates.
Female candidates continue to outnumber male candidates for the second consecutive year, with 501,214 females compared to 492,012 males. The number of students achieving an overall mean grade A (plain) also increased slightly to 1,932 (0.19%) from 1,693 (0.18%) in 2024.

The schools
Several top secondary schools across the country have begun publicly celebrating strong performances in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, with many recording double-digit numbers of A plain grades and improved mean scores.
At Nairobi School, Principal Casper Maina announced a notable improvement in the school’s overall performance, with the mean grade rising to 9.537, up from 9.228 in 2024. A total of 602 candidates sat for the exams, compared to 553 the previous year.
“Our average performance is a B+ across all candidates. The breakdown is as follows: 42 A plains, 139 A minus, with the rest spread across strong upper grades.”
Kagumo High School also posted exceptional results, with Principal Silas Mwirigi confirming the school recorded 75 A-plains, placing it among the top-performing institutions nationally.
“We have improved compared to last year. Our results include 75 A plains, 149 A minus, 111 B plus, 81 B plain, 63 B minus, 22 C plus and 2 C minus, giving us a mean score of 9.99, just 0.01 shy of our target of 10.”
He added that the school is now targeting a mean score of 10.5 in future examinations.

In Western Kenya, Kakamega High School Principal Elphas Aliva revealed that the school produced 11 A-plains, with the top student, Charles Simiyu, scoring an impressive 84 points.
The full breakdown showed balanced performance across grades, including 49 A minus, 132 B plus, 127 B plain, and 132 B minus, among others.
Bunyore Girls High School in Vihiga County has also roared again in the 2025 KCSE exams, with 34 of their candidates scoring straight As.
“The school had 451 candidates who sat for the 2025 KCSE exams. From 451 candidates, 34 have scored straight As, we have 95 A-s, 151 B+, 112 B plain, 45 B-, 13 C+ and one C plain,” Bunyore Girls High School Chief Principal Judith Agade said.

Meanwhile, St Joseph’s Boys High School, Kitale, is also celebrating encouraging early results. Deputy Principal David Ndiwa said that out of 736 candidates, results for 120 students had been received so far, showing strong outcomes.
“So far, we have 6 A plains, 45 A minus, and 52 B plus, with no grade below B minus at this stage,” Ndiwa noted, adding that more results are still being processed.
In Eastern Kenya, Meru School also celebrated a significant improvement. Principal Henry Ruteere revealed that the school presented 545 candidates, recording 69 A pluses, 136 A minuses, 153 B pluses, 117 B minuses, 49 B minuses, 13 C pluses, 6 C minuses, and 2 C minuses.
“We have done a great improvement compared to last year. Our mean has risen from 9.3 to 9.9,” he stated.
Kitui School also posted an impressive performance. The school presented 354 candidates and recorded 17 A pluses, 87 A minuses, 109 B pluses, 83 B minuses, 41 B minuses, 12 C pluses, and 5 C minuses. The school’s mean score rose to 9.7, up from 9.5 in 2024.
Mbita High School also posted commendable results. The school presented 525 candidates and recorded 37 A pluses, 113 A minuses, 120 B pluses, 104 B minuses, 60 B minuses, 49 C pluses, 21 C minuses, 10 C minuses, 9 D pluses, and 2 D minuses, with an overall mean score of 9.26.
St Anne’s Muthale Girls’ School also recorded a positive improvement. The school posted 9 A pluses, 27 A minuses, 75 B pluses, 110 B minuses, 87 B minuses, 35 C pluses, 10 C minuses, 6 C minuses, and 1 D plus, achieving a mean score of 8.83, up slightly from 8.79 in 2024.
Additionally, Limuru Girls has 14 As, 56 A minuses, 118 B pluses, 139 Bs, 111 B minuses, 41 C pluses, 17 Cs, 2 C minuses, and 1 D plus, with a mean of 9.03.
On the other hand, Bishop Gatimu Ngandu, who had a candidature of 424 candidates, is celebrating 11 A pluses, 70 A minuses, 104 B pluses, 105 B minuses, B minus 88, C pluses, 7 C minuses, 3 C minuses, 2 D pluses. Our mean grade is 9.179.
