Kapiti accident: 6 reported dead in multi-vehicle crash on Nairobi–Mombasa Highway
At least six people have been reported dead while several others were injured following a multi-vehicle accident along the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway near Kapiti Plains in Machakos County.
The crash occurred at around 1:50 am on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, involving a bus, two lorries and at least three other vehicles.
Preliminary information indicates that the accident began when a lorry travelling from Mombasa towards Nairobi collided with another lorry that was approaching from the opposite direction.
Following the initial impact, one of the lorries is said to have lost control and moved into the path of an oncoming bus, leading to a head-on collision.

The collision resulted in a pile-up involving several vehicles, leaving at least six people dead and several others with injuries.
However, authorities had not issued an official statement by the time of publication to confirm the casualties, identities of the victims or the circumstances that led to the first collision.
More details are expected after police and other relevant agencies assess the scene and begin investigations.
