Joho mourns Aisha Jumwa’s mother Sidi Karisa as woman with great influence

Former Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho has joined family, friends, and leaders in mourning the death of Sidi Karisa Katana, the mother of former Malindi Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Aisha Jumwa.

In a statement on Sunday, December 28, 2025, Joho described the late Mama Sidi Karisa as a woman of great influence whose life was marked by strength, grace and service to both family and community.

“It is with a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences to my sister Hon. Aisha Jumwa Katana and her entire family following the passing of their beloved matriarch, Mama Sidi Karisa Katana,” Joho said.

He praised Mama Sidi as a remarkable woman who lived a life defined by unwavering devotion to her family and a strong sense of responsibility to the community around her.

“Mama Sidi was a woman of great influence, strength and grace. Her legacy of love, wisdom and selflessness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her,” he added.

Joho further offered prayers for the family during what he described as a moment of immense loss, asking God to grant them comfort, strength and peace as they mourn.

“In this difficult time, I pray that the Almighty God grants the family the strength to endure the pain of her passing. May the Almighty God rest the soul of Mama Sidi Karisa Katana in eternal peace.”

In a statement released on Sunday evening, December 28, 2025, Jumwa announced that Karisa died after a short illness.

“It is with deep sorrow and humility that we announce the passing of our mother, Sidi Karisa, who died after suffering a short illness,” she announced.

She described the late Sidi Karisa as the pillar and heart of the family, noting that she touched many lives through her love, kindness, humility, and strong moral values.

“Our mother was the guide, pillar, and heart of our family. She touched many lives with her love, kindness, humanity, and wise counsel. Her memories will forever remain in our hearts,” she added.

She later announced that the burial will take place on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 4.00 pm at the family home in Takaungu, Mnarani Ward, Kilifi North Constituency, Kilifi County.
