Inside fresh bid to transfer JSS to senior schools

Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba has revealed that he will table a motion in the National Assembly to have junior secondary schools transferred from primary schools to senior secondary schools.

Omboko, while addressing parents at Esibila Secondary School during the issuance of KSh58 million National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) secondary school bursaries, said junior secondary classes should be moved to senior secondary schools where key resources are available.

He noted with concern that most of the resources intended to support junior secondary students are located in senior secondary schools rather than in primary schools.

“I am going to table a motion in the National Assembly to have junior secondary school Grades Seven to Nine transferred to senior secondary schools. In senior secondary schools, we have laboratories, well-equipped libraries, qualified teachers, classrooms, and all other required resources,” said Omboko.

He added that many senior secondary schools currently do not have Grade 10 students despite having adequate facilities.

“Most secondary schools do not have Grade 10 students. This is because schools under categories C1, C2, and C3 admitted almost all Grade Nine students, leaving none for C4 and C5 schools,” Omboko lamented.

He said that to save smaller schools from closure, junior secondary classes should be shifted there.

Omboko urged fellow MPs to support his motion.

“I am appealing to my fellow MPs to support my motion, which seeks to protect small schools from collapsing. Let Grades Eight and Nine be admitted to these schools,” he said.

He also asked principals to be ready to receive junior secondary students in senior secondary schools if his bill is passed.

“Let principals be ready to receive junior secondary school students in their senior secondary schools if my bill sails through,” Omboko urded.
