How students will check their KJSEA placement results

The Ministry of Education is set to release the placement results of the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA).

Speaking during the annual Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) conference on December 17, 2025, the PS confirmed that students will know the results by December 19, 2025, via SMS.

Bitok said that once the results are out, students will send their KJSEA assessment number to 22263.

“To be able to know which schools and pathways the students will take, a learner sends their assessment number to 22263, and there and then they will be able to know which schools and pathways they have been placed in by Friday this week,” he said.

Initially, the ministry had indicated that the placement results would be out by Friday, December 19, 2025. However, by the time of this publication, the ministry had not authoritatively confirmed the release of placement results.

The exams, held between October 27 and November 3, 2025, were designed to assess the pioneer cohort’s readiness for Competency-Based Education (CBE).

According to the Ministry, a total of 1,130,459 learners sat the 2025 KJSEA, with 578,630 male and 551,829 female.

Reporting

Learners will be required to report to their respective senior secondary schools by Monday, January 12, 2026.

Similarly, the Ministry of Education addressed concerns raised by parents and learners about whether students can transfer to different senior schools if they are dissatisfied with the KJSEA results.

Speaking in December 2025, the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Professor Julius Bitok, stated that students will be allowed to change schools and pathways if they are unhappy with their initial placement.

“And we shall give them an opportunity to revise. If you are given a school and you don’t like it, you will revise digitally,” Bitok said.

Change of schools

The PS added that students transitioning to Grade 10 who wish to change their pathway can do so within the next week. By December 20th, parents will know which senior secondary schools their children have been placed in, with assurances that the transition will be transparent.

“We have a team already working very hard in Mombasa to ensure proper placement. Starting Monday, the day after tomorrow, some students will know their placements, and all students will know where they have been placed by December 20. We aim to ensure a fair placement process. No parent should worry at all,” the PS assured.

Speaking when he released the results on Thursday, December 11, 2025, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said the purpose of the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) is threefold.
