Havi defends move to Gachagua’s DCP amid public backlash
Senior Counsel Nelson Havi has confirmed receiving messages from Kenyans following his recent political move.
In a statement on his social media accounts on Thursday, February 5, 2026, Havi shared his frustrations while politely asking those messaging him to stop.
The former Law Society of Kenya president noted that people have flooded his inbox to express disappointment after he joined Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), led by Rigathi Gachagua.
He urged people to stop spamming his inbox with their belated pieces of advice.

“Please, do not spam my WhatsApp DM with advice or dissatisfaction with my choice to join DCP,” Havi said.
He questioned where those not impressed with his decision had been during the preceding four months.
“Where have you been for the last 4 months since I resigned from UDA, to advise on what I should have done or not done? Weka picha yako na jina lako kwa ballot if you think you are more knowledgeable on the matter,” he added.
Gachagua welcomes Havi to DCP
Havi joined DCP after exiting President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on a politically-charged day.
In a statement posted on his X account on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua announced the move, describing the party as keen on attracting strong legal minds to strengthen its legislative, representation and oversight agenda.

“DCP party requires great legal minds for Legislation, Representation and Oversight,” Gachagua stated.
Why Havi dumped UDA for DCP
Havi who has political ambitions for Westlands Constituency, explained that his continued stay in UDA became untenable with pressure from Kenyans.
“It became unbearable for me to be associated with UDA, because I am an easy-going person, and I walk by the streets, and I drive myself because I have not stolen anyone’s money, and you will be mocked by people, and they will tell you, ‘Look, have you been a good person? Please get out of that party of thieves, but even before, you remember April 2024, when UDA elections were held; I was not in the voter register. My name had already been removed,” Havi said in an interview with a local TV station on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
According to the Senior Counsel, DCP was his natural political home because the members of the party stand for what is right.
His move came on a day that also saw Ruto host more than 12000 UDA aspirants at State House.
