Dr Victoria Mutiso murder: Angela Mulwa re-arrested at Milimani Court premises

Advocate Angela Mulwa, linked to the murder of Doctor Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, has been re-arrested at the Milimani Law Courts.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers have arrested Angela at the Milimani Law Courts premises on Monday, August 24, 2026, minutes after the court closed a file that was seeking to detain her for 14 days.
DCI filed a miscellaneous application on Friday, August 21, 2026, but the defence team argued that the Milimani Law Court did not have jurisdiction to hear the application.
However, Magistrate Joan Mati on Monday, August 24, 2026, has dismissed the preliminary objection by the defence, citing that the court had the jurisdiction to hear the application.
However, the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) told the court that the court has jurisdiction to hear the application, noting that the current application is different from the other one before the Mavoko Court.
In her ruling on Monday, August 24, 2026, Magistrate Joan Mati has dismissed advocate Angela’s preliminary objection, stating that the court has the jurisdiction to hear the application.
Magistrate Mati has stated that there is consequently insufficient material at this stage to advocate the issues raised in the present application from those considered in the Mavoko matter.
She has noted that whether a distinct issue can be isolated, including in relation to the matters claimed to have arisen in Nairobi, requires proper evidentiary consideration.
“I accordingly find that the preliminary objection does not meet the threshold established; the preliminary objection is therefore dismissed,” Magistrate Mati ruled.
Angela was arraigned before Magistrate Mati after she was re-arrested after Mavoko Court released her on bail after she had been detained for 14 days.
According to court documents at the Mavoko Law Court, the DCI was investigating her and another person over the theft of vehicles belonging to the deceased and over the forgery of a land title.
Her second re-arrest has come after the prosecution has informed the Magistrate’s Court that they have already registered a charge of murder against her at the High Court.
