DPP to charge lawyer Angela Mulwa with murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso

The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is set to charge advocate Angela Mulwa with the murder of Doctor Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.
The DPP, through Deputy Director Jalson Makori and Gikui Gichui, presented information to Milimani Law Courts Magistrate Joan Mati that they have already registered the charge at the High Court.
Makori has told Magistrate Mati that Angela will be presented at the High Court for formal charging.
Appearing before Milimani Magistrate Joan Mati on Monday, August 24, 2026, Makori has asked the court to formally mark the miscellaneous application file closed.
“Your honour, we have demonstrated to the court that now we are formally charging the respondent (Angela Mulwa) for an offence of murder,” Makori told the court.
During the proceedings, the defence team asked the court to give directions on when they can present their client for the murder plea taking.
However, the request was vehemently opposed by DPP, who noted that the lower court did not have jurisdiction over the matter going forward.
The DPP also stated that the bail terms Angela was enjoying were in respect of another matter, which was not before the Milimani Court.
In addition, he said that the said matter she is out on bail for is also in respect to a different issue or different offences.
“Respectfully, this court does not have jurisdiction moving forward, so the defence cannot tell us now to inform them when to present their client,” Makori told the court.
Magistrate Mati allowed the State application to close the miscellaneous application on the grounds that the State has registered a murder charge against advocate Angela at the High Court.
“The state and the prosecution, or rather the applicant, have stated that a charge has been filed at the High Court in E-004 of 2026, which was registered this morning,” Magistrate Mati stated.
“The applicant (Prosecution) has moved to withdraw the application, Miscellaneous Criminal Application No. 3856 of 2026.
Based on the above, the application to withdraw the application is hereby allowed; this file is closed,” Mati added.
Minutes later the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended Angela after she left the courtroom.
The DPP is expected to charge her, her mother Rose Mbithe Mulwa, alias Rose Mbithe Ndetei, and her brother Chris Mulwa on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, with the brutal murder of the late Dr Mutiso.
