DCI nabs man linked to killing of 17-year-old Nai Girls student

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has apprehended a person of interest in connection with the brutal killing of a 17-year-old Form Four student at a local secondary school in Endebess.
According to an X post shared by the agency on Sunday, February 1, 2026, the DCI highlighted that the teenager’s body was discovered early in the morning on a nearby farm, roughly a short distance from her home.
“Detectives in Endebess have arrested the prime suspect behind the brutal killing of 17-year-old Rael Cheptoek Kaboi, a Form Four student at Nai Girls Secondary School, which occurred on January 30, 2026, in the Mowlem area of Kiptogot location,” DCI said.
Officers from Endebess Police Station responded promptly, secured the scene, and documented evidence before transferring the body to Kijana Wamalwa Referral Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
Investigators noted that the student had left home around 5:45 a.m. to attend school, located less than a kilometre away, but she never made it. Her body was found shortly after 6:30 a.m. by fellow pupils walking to class, bearing clear signs of assault.
Traced abroad
The investigative team shared that, acting on intelligence leads, they traced the person of interest across the Kenya–Uganda border.
A joint operation with Ugandan authorities led to the individual’s apprehension after fleeing the country following the incident.

The DCI stated that the person of interest has since been returned to Endebess and is undergoing processing ahead of arraignment, while detectives continue to dig deeper to establish the motive behind the crime.
“The suspect has since been escorted back and is in custody at Endebess Police Station, undergoing processing ahead of arraignment, as detectives dig deeper to establish the motive behind the horrifying crime.”DCI wrote.
The agency further emphasised the role of the public in assisting the ongoing investigation. Members of the community are urged to provide information while maintaining anonymity.
The DCI also noted the importance of cross-border collaboration in apprehending suspects and preventing further incidents. Authorities shared that all leads are being followed meticulously to ensure a thorough investigation.
