Baringo incest: High school student forced to drop out after being impregnated by her father

Police officers in Baringo County have launched a manhunt for a man accused of impregnating his daughter in Kitibei Village, Baringo North Sub-county.
According to a report released on Thursday, July 30, 2026, the person of interest went into hiding immediately after the incident came to light.
Further reports indicate that the victim, who was actively pursuing her secondary education, was forced to drop out of school as a result of the pregnancy.
Alarm over unreported incest cases
The incident has triggered fresh concern among local civil rights groups over the safety of young girls in the region.
Speaking on the matter, Human Rights Activist Lucilla Kandie voiced deep worry regarding what she described as a disturbing surge in incest cases across Baringo North.
Kandie has highlighted that many such abuses go unpunished due to families turning to informal dispute resolutions rather than involving legal authorities.
“In Baringo North, such cases are coming up. Imekua mingi sanaa na zingine hata hazikui reported na wanafanya kwa Kangaroo courts, and that is the biggest challenge happening in Baringo North,” Kandie explained.
Incest is taboo and illegal in Kenya; according to Kenyan laws, it is punishable by five years in prison or life imprisonment for sex with a minor.
What is incest?
