5 arrested as police recover stolen items in Machakos burglary

A routine police patrol in Machakos Township has led to the arrest of five persons of interest in connection with a burglary reported along Kitui Road.
In a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS) on Thursday, February 5, 2026, the individuals were arrested by officers from Machakos Police Station after receiving information from members of the public about a suspected theft in progress. Acting on the tip-off, officers moved quickly and intercepted the group within the township.
During the operation, the five persons of interest were found in possession of items believed to have been stolen during the burglary. Police say the individuals later guided officers to another location where more property was recovered.
The items retrieved include a television set, audio equipment, a keg pump, and several alcoholic products.
“Earlier today, police officers from Machakos Police Station arrested five suspects found in possession of items believed to have been stolen during a burglary on Kitui Road, Machakos Township. The arrests followed a swift response by officers on a routine patrol, who acted on timely information regarding an ongoing theft. The suspects subsequently led officers to a location where a television, a keg pump, audio equipment, and assorted alcoholic beverages were recovered,” the statement read in part.
All recovered items were taken into police custody as investigations continue. The five individuals were also taken to Machakos Police Station, where they are being held pending completion of investigations and court proceedings.
Police have launched further inquiries to establish the extent of the burglary and to determine whether the individuals are linked to other criminal activities within Machakos Township.
The National Police Service has welcomed the cooperation shown by members of the public, noting that the arrests were made possible through timely information. Police have emphasised that public vigilance and cooperation remain key in enhancing security and preventing crime.
Officers have assured residents that patrols and rapid response operations will continue as part of efforts to safeguard lives and property across the county.
“All suspects were taken to Machakos Police Station and placed in custody, pending processing and arraignment in court. The National Police Service commends both the public and its officers for the successful operation, and remains resolute in its commitment to serving and protecting the public.”
