Arsenal, Barcelona and holders PSG set for decisive matchday 1 UCL fixtures

The 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league phase continues this Wednesday, September 9, 2026, with six huge fixtures on the cards.

Spanish giants, Barcelona, and 2026 finalist Arsenal will be among the European giants on schedule as the elite European sides aim for a perfect start to the European calendar.

Barcelona, Liverpool, PSG, the English champions, Arsenal, and Galatasaray will all begin their Champions League campaigns tonight with six blockbuster fixtures.

From EPL cruise to UCL

Having already shown early intent on the domestic front with a perfect start to the league, Mikel Arteta’s club returns to Europe stage eyeing to make amends after 2026’s season penalty shoot-out disappointment to PSG.

The Gunners have been boosted by the return of Jurrien Timber, who joined the team’s trip to Naples after recovering from a groin injury that kept him out since March.

Paris Saint-Germain enters Wednesday’s European clash eager to turn the tide after an inconsistent start to French Ligue 1 under Luis Enrique.

They, however, came off with a determined Slavan Bratislava team under Yaya Toure who assumed the reins in July 2026. The club has since gone unbeaten in their qualification run, ending with a thrilling 2-1 extra-time win over NK Celje, and will fancy their chances against the reigning champions.

Moving away from their reliance on individual sterling stars and momentum from their back-to-back triumphs, Enrique’s side remains a force to reckon with, capable of turning their fortunes around.
