Kenyan music duo Vijana Barubaru have announced a break from their joint music career as they focus on exploring their individual paths.

The duo announced on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, through a statement shared on their official Instagram page, saying they had decided to take a pause after years of making music together.

For years, Vijana Barubaru have been known for their work as a two-member act, with the duo building a following through their music and performances. Their decision to take a break, however, does not mark the end of their musical journeys, with both members now set to focus on their solo careers.

Vijana Barubaru explain decision

In their statement, the duo reflected on the journey they have shared and the music and memories they have created together.

“For years, the world has known us as Vijana Barubaru. Two voices, one shared journey,” they said.

They noted that they were proud of what they had built together and described the new move as the beginning of another stage in their careers. The duo explained that both members had continued to grow as artistes and individuals, leading them to explore their own creative interests.

“Today, we want to share that we are entering a new season of our music careers,” they said.

They added that the decision was made to give each member room to discover their own sound and develop their individual artistic identity.

Duo describes break as a period of self-discovery

Vijana Barubaru said their break is mainly about allowing themselves to explore different sides of their creativity.

“This is about self-discovery. It is about taking the opportunity to explore our creative voices, discover new parts of ourselves, and see what more we can become as artists,” they said.

The duo also recognised the role their time together has played in their careers, describing Vijana Barubaru as a foundation that gave them a shared history and brotherhood.

They thanked their fans for standing by them throughout their journey and acknowledged that their achievements would not have been possible without their support. “Vijana Barubaru has given us a foundation, history, and brotherhood,” they said.

Fans urged to support their solo journeys

As they begin their individual careers, the duo asked their supporters to continue giving them the same support they have received throughout their time together. They encouraged fans to follow their next steps and experience how their individual voices will develop outside the duo.

“In the same spirit, we invite you to experience what those same voices will become in this next chapter we are ushering in. Bring the same love, if not more, and let’s continue making great memories and music,” they said.

The announcement marks a new chapter for Vijana Barubaru, with the two members now set to explore their individual musical directions while carrying the experience and history they built together.
