3 arrested in Kwale as police seize 210 rolls of bhang
Three persons of interest have been arrested in Kwale County following a police operation targeting narcotics trafficking.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers from Kwale Police Station acted on credible intelligence and mounted an ambush in the Denyenye area on Thursday, January 15, 2026. During the operation, the officers intercepted a motorcycle that was believed to be transporting illegal items.
Upon searching the motorcycle, the officers recovered 210 rolls of a substance believed to be cannabis sativa. The three individuals found in possession of the drugs were immediately taken into custody.
“Acting on credible intelligence, officers from Kwale Police Station intercepted a motorcycle in an ambush today in the Denyenye area of Kwale County that was suspected of transporting illegal items. The operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects who were found to have 210 rolls of a substance believed to be cannabis sativa. They are in custody pending arraignment,” NPS stated.

Police say the individuals are currently being held as investigations continue and are expected to be arraigned in court.
The authorities noted that such operations are part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and protect communities from the harmful effects of narcotics. The service also emphasised the role of public cooperation, saying collaboration between residents and security agencies remains key in the fight against drug-related crimes.

This comes a day after police seized 243 rolls of bhang during a targeted operation in the Mwata area, Kisii South Sub-County.
The drugs were found hidden in a maize plantation, and a red TVS motorcycle suspected of being used in drug trafficking was also recovered. The person of interest fled during the operation and is currently being pursued by police.
