A multi-agency security team has intensified the crackdown on the manufacture and sale of illicit alcohol in Molo Sub-County, seizing thousands of litres of illegal brew during a major operation in the Mutirithia and Miti Mirefu areas.

The operation, led by Molo Assistant Commissioner Godfrey Chitiavi and Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Yare Duale, targeted a suspected brewing den operating within a homestead.

Acting on intelligence reports from members of the public, officers raided the premises and uncovered a large consignment of illicit alcohol.

Police recovered more than 2,000 litres of Kangara, which is a locally brewed illicit drink, along with 680 litres of molasses believed to have been used in the production process.

Addressing the media at the scene on Friday, February 20, 2026, Chitiavi said the raid followed credible information shared by residents concerned about the impact of illicit alcohol on the community.

“This appears to be a notorious den that has been operating within a homestead. We urge residents to continue providing security officers with information. We shall deal firmly with illicit brewers who are endangering lives,” he said.

A female suspect, believed to co-own the illegal business with her husband, was arrested during the operation.

She is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday, February 23, 2026. Police indicated that investigations are ongoing and that more arrests could follow.

Local residents commended the security agencies for the decisive action, noting that the proliferation of illicit brews has posed serious health and social risks, particularly to young people.

The officers reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining the crackdown, warning those involved in the illegal trade that they will face the full force of the law.
