NTSA summons 9 PSV operators over safety concerns
By Dan Kauna, August 31, 2026The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has summoned nine Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators after raising serious flags over road safety violations on major transit routes across the country.
The directive, issued by the NTSA Communication Office on August 31, 2026, targets notable long-distance shuttles and regional matatu saccos operating in Kenya.
According to the transport safety regulator, the move comes after continuous monitoring of public transport vehicles revealed recurring compliance failures.
“In exercising its powers, the Authority has summoned a number of public service vehicle operators after observing serious safety concerns,” NTSA stated in an official communication posted on its social media handles under its road safety campaign banner, Usalama Barabarani.
The public notice names prominent transport providers connecting Nairobi to major towns in Northern Kenya, the Rift Valley, Western region, and Nyanza.
These public transport saccos and companies carry thousands of daily passengers across the country.
The regulator aims to evaluate their operational compliance, driver qualification records, vehicle inspection statuses, and speed limiter telemetry to protect commuters from preventable road crashes.

NTSA has set specific dates for the management teams of the affected operators to appear before the regulatory panel.
