In an industry often synonymous with wild parties and champagne-fueled celebrations, a growing list of Hollywood’s elite is proving that life is better lived with a clear head.

Leading the charge is rap royalty Eminem, who this month is celebrating a monumental milestone. As of April 20, 2026, the 53-year-old, born Marshall Mathers, has officially marked 18 years of sobriety.

The ‘Slim Shady’ star took to social media to share a photo of his latest sobriety coin, a tradition he has kept since he first vowed to change his life in 2008.

But the road to this “superpower,” as he now calls it, was nearly cut short by tragedy.

Eminem’s brush with death

Eminem’s journey began following a terrifying near-fatal drug overdose in December 2007.

The rapper, who had struggled with a cocktail of alcohol and prescription drugs including Vicodin, Valium, and Ambien, was just two hours from death after overdosing on methadone.

He officially got sober on April 20, 2008, and has since credited fellow music legend Elton John as the mentor who saved him, revealing the ‘Rocket Man’ singer checked in on him weekly during his early recovery.

The transformation redefined his career; his hit albums Relapse (2009) and Recovery (2010) were born from the struggle of relearning his craft with a sober mind.

Today, he says sobriety allows him to be “fully present” for his children.

The teetotaler A-list

Eminem is far from alone in his teetotal lifestyle. Here are nine other superstars who have famously turned their backs on alcohol:
