Legendary singer and songwriter Wahu Kagwi has delighted fans by sharing a collection of heartwarming and humorous throwback memories from her daughter Tumiso’s very first birthday party.

Taking to social media on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the mother-of-three shared a moving reflection on how quickly time flies, noting that the tiny baby who inspired her breakout track is now a brilliant young adult navigating university life.

Wahu’s firstborn daughter, Tumiso Mathenge, was born on August 1, 2006 – she is now 19 years old.

Reflecting on the early, chaotic days of motherhood, Wahu admitted that raising her firstborn came with its fair share of panic and over-the-top milestones.

“I remember this day like it was yesterday,” Wahu wrote, looking back at the milestone occasion.

“It was @tumi.mathenge’s first birthday… we threw a big bash mostly to congratulate ourselves for making it through the 1st year. 1st time parents anxiety was real!”

The chart-topping songstress also revealed a hilarious, behind-the-scenes mishap from the lavish party involving the afternoon’s hired entertainment.

“I remember we had to ask the clown to wipe the paint off his face coz he was scaring the birthday girl,” she joked, before adding a sweet, belated note: “Aki clown if you’re reading this, I’m still sorry. It was the baby not me.”

The party was a monumental occasion for more than just the birthday cake; it was the very first time Wahu ever performed her hit track ‘Sweet Love’ to a public crowd.

Fast forward to today, and the legendary songstress is marveling at the incredible woman her daughter has become.

“Now this little girl who was once scared of the clown is now in Uni, a bright young leader in her own right within our family and beyond, and is doing amazing things with her life. Time surely flies by,” she gushed.

The nostalgic trip down memory lane serves as the perfect backdrop for the newly re-recorded version of Sweet Love, which Wahu has officially launched with a link for fans to stream.

Sending out a message of solidarity to families worldwide, Wahu closed her emotional tribute by dedicating the fresh track to anyone who knows the deep bond of family love.

“Sweet Love Re-recorded is a celebration of this beautiful parenting journey that we have travelled, and are still continuing to travel,” she shared.

“To all parents, aunties, uncles, —- anyone who has a sweet love in their lives, this one is for us.”
