Social media influencer Diana Kemunto has left many of her followers emotional after sharing private messages she exchanged with late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo following news of his death.

In screenshots posted on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Diana revealed a warm and playful friendship with the celebrated Nigerian actor, even though the two did not speak regularly.

Their chats showed light-hearted conversations, check-ins, and the kind of online friendship many people can relate to, where months may pass quietly before one person suddenly sends a random message as if no time has gone by.

The messages painted Alexx as charming, humorous, and easy to talk to, qualities many fans across Africa had already come to associate with him through his films and interviews.

The death of Alexx Ekubo has shocked Nollywood and the wider African entertainment industry. Reports emerging from Nigerian media on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, indicated that the actor died after a private battle with cancer. Several outlets reported that he had been unwell for some time and had largely stepped away from public life in recent months.

Known for his striking looks, smooth voice, comic timing, and romantic lead roles, Alexx built one of the most recognisable brands in Nollywood over the last decade. Born Alex Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke on April 10, 1986, in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, the actor first gained national attention after emerging as the first runner-up in the 2010 Mr Nigeria competition.

He later transitioned fully into acting and became a fan favourite in movies such as Weekend Getaway, Lagos Cougars, The First Lady, Bling Lagosians, A Sunday Affair, and Áfàméfùnà: An Nwa Boi Story. Over the years, he appeared in more than 100 productions, often playing the stylish boyfriend, the smooth-talking city man, or the funny best friend who somehow stole the scene without even trying too hard.

Away from film, Alexx was also admired for his fashion sense and social media presence.

Tributes from fellow actors, influencers, and fans have continued flooding social media, with many describing him as kind, generous, and deeply supportive behind the scenes. While Nollywood is no stranger to dramatic storylines, this is one plot twist many people were simply not prepared for.
