Salasya says Nyayo Stadium attack turned into a blessing in disguise

Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has shared reflections on a past incident at Nyayo Stadium, saying what initially looked like a painful experience eventually became a turning point in his life.

The youthful MP on Friday, April 17, 2026, shared a cute photo of his daughter online, recalling how he was attacked during the Harambee Stars’ World Cup qualifier match against Gabon on Sunday, March 23, 2025, describing it as a difficult moment that left him hurt and shaken.

He said the experience later carried a deeper meaning in his life, as it coincided with a period of personal reflection and unexpected developments.

In his remarks, Salasya also said that after the attack, the mother of his daughter visited him to check on his recovery and that their daughter was conceived around that time.

Salasya’s daughter

In addition, Salasya praised his daughter, adding that he had told her she would become a surgeon, adding that he had already blessed her.

He further used the moment to speak about his aspirations, jokingly telling his daughter that she would become a doctor by the time he would be the President, adding that under his leadership, doctors in Kenya would be better paid.

Salasya further added that he envisioned the country developing its healthcare system to be like India’s.

“My daughter ni fire.wewe nimesema utakuwa daktari; by that time nitakuwa president doctors in Kenya will be highly paid by that time because Kenya will be like India in matters health,” Salasya added.

“You will be a surgeon, my daughter. I have already blessed you.”

Nyayo Stadium attack

The vocal lawmaker was attacked and forcefully ushered out of the Nyayo Stadium in harrowing scenes on Sunday, March 23, 2025.

Salasya was among the thousands of Kenyans who were in attendance at Kenya’s crucial World Cup qualifier match against Gabon.

However, the vocal legislator had an afternoon to forget, as his stay at the stadium was short-lived following an altercation with a section of the crowd.

He struggled to break free from an irate crowd who roughed him up and forcibly showed him towards the stadium’s exit.
