Sam Kitiki appeals for support as cancer battle worsens and barbershop struggles

Celebrity barber Sam Kitika has appealed to Kenyans for support as he battles cancer while struggling to keep his small barbershop running and afford consistent medication.
In an emotional appeal shared on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, Kitika said his health has deteriorated in recent days, with the financial pressure of running his business making it difficult to maintain his treatment.
I have been battling cancer, and recently things have gotten worse. The biggest challenge right now is not just the illness itself, but the stress and lack of consistent medication – something that has been caused by my struggle to keep my small barbershop running.
“Life has taken a difficult turn for me. I believe in working hard and earning my living with dignity,” Kitika said.
Kitika explained that he made the difficult decision to invest money meant for his treatment into keeping his barbershop open, hoping the business would eventually generate enough income to support both his livelihood and medical needs.
“That’s why I invested my treatment money into keeping my shop open, hoping that with time, customers would come and I could sustain both my health and my business. Unfortunately, there are days now when not even a single customer walks in,” he said.
He said the situation has left him facing difficult choices between taking care of his health and keeping his source of income afloat.
“This has forced me to make painful choices between my health and my livelihood – and right now, my condition is worsening,” Kitika said.
Kitika appeals to Kenyans
Kitika has now appealed to Kenyans to support his barbershop, saying even small acts of support could help him continue working while seeking treatment.
“I am humbly appealing to Kenyans: please support my small barbershop. Your visit, your haircut, your recommendation to a friend – any support can truly give me a fighting chance. I want to keep fighting. I don’t want to give up. But I am human, and this journey is wearing me down,” he said.
He also thanked those who had supported him previously, saying their kindness had helped him begin his journey.
“To everyone who has supported me before, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your kindness helped me start this journey. I am once again asking for your support so I can continue both my treatment and my work.
“Please help me keep going,” Kitika said.
