Presidential advisor Makau Mutua has given his unfiltered take following the viral video of Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti fumbling and struggling to read a speech that had been prepared for her.

The incident, which happened in the Machakos County Assembly, saw the governor harshly criticised as she appeared unprepared for the address and fumbled all through.

Not even a well-written speech could save her from the embarrassing moment, as she not only confused terms but also appeared to lack flow and knowledge of what she was speaking about.

Taking to social media to give his verdict without naming the county boss, Makau firmly stated that an elected leader should at the very least be able to read a written speech regardless of who wrote it.

“An elected leader should be able to read a written speech. Ouch!” He stated.

Video of Wavinya’s speech goes viral

The governor could be seen struggling as she gave a speech that was barely coherent, with long pauses in between and leaving points hanging as she moved on to the next item in her speech.

As the confusion took its toll, the county boss took a break and could be heard asking for water from her aides.

The incident comes barely days after Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi’s interview with a local TV station, which went viral.

The CS failed to give satisfactory answers to several questions touching on his docket, exposing a glaring lack of knowledge on the part of the man entrusted with the important docket, while the journalist appeared well prepared and even schooled the CS on the types of oil.

Opiyo Wandayi’s viral interview

The interview saw Lawyer Willis Otieno troll the CS, whom he painted as a clueless ornamental appointee heading an important docket but lacking facts and knowledge on the ministry.

“Energy is not gossip. It is numbers, systems, contracts, and grid stability. If you cannot command your docket, you have no business sitting in that office…If he cannot defend his own sector with data, then he is not leading it but occupying it. Kenya cannot afford ornamental leadership in technical ministries. Energy requires precision. What we saw was improvisation,” Otieno said.
