‘Mama is proud’: Wavinya Ndeti hosts Maureen Mwende to resolve Ksh19M uniform debt
Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has hosted Maureen Mwende Mutua at her residence to discuss the pending Ksh19 million uniform bill owed to Movata Designs.
In a statement on April 1, 2026, the governor revealed that she had a constructive conversation with Maureen, accompanied by her parents, to resolve the long-standing financial dispute amicably.
“We had an open and productive conversation, and I want to assure the public that Movata Designs will be paid as per the procedures in accordance with the established processes. This ensures that all payments are handled transparently, fairly, and in line with the law. Maureen, my dear, all will be well. Mama is proud of your courage and maturity to resolve this matter amicably.”
“Thank you, Maureen, for bringing this matter to light and for your clarity. The matter was politicised, and I am pleased that the issue has now been amicably resolved and the payment will be made in accordance with the established procedures,” she added.

Speaking after the meeting, Maureen Mwende expressed gratitude for the governor’s intervention.
“Regarding the issue about our pending bill, we are privileged to have visited the governor of Machakos, our Mama, Wavinya Ndeti. We came with our parents, and had a deep discussion of the issue. After listening, she has committed to ensuring that everything is paid and that protocol is followed. My brother and I acknowledge that some of our previous actions online did not follow proper procedure. We express our apologies; that was only our way of showing frustration, but now we know better,” she said.
This comes a day after Mwende’s brother, comedian and businessman Sammy Kioko, received treatment at Nairobi West Hospital after he was assaulted during a protest over a disputed payment claim.
Kioko was admitted on March 31, 2026, after being referred from Kang’undo Level 4 Hospital, where he had earlier been taken following initial treatment at Athi River Level 4 Hospital.
His hospitalisation followed an incident outside the Machakos County Government offices, where he had joined other contractors in a demonstration over unpaid dues.

The entertainer, who also runs Movata Fashion, claims that his company supplied uniforms to the Machakos County Government during the 2023/2024 financial year under a contract worth Ksh20 million.
However, Kioko stated that despite fulfilling the supply, he only received Ksh20,000, a claim he supported by sharing Mpesa transaction messages.
The protest that preceded the assault had been planned a day earlier, with Kioko publicly calling on fellow suppliers and contractors to gather peacefully at the county headquarters to demand accountability and payment.
“Nothing will stop us from coming tomorrow. We will accompany those suppliers, those contractors, together with their families, and at exactly 10 am, peacefully, we will be seated within the county government of Machakos offices,” Kioko said in a video on March 30, 2026.
