A return to the studio
Year of the Pen is King Kaka’s first studio album in several years.
The rapper said the project is centred on intentional writing, reinvention and exploring different sounds. He described the album as a reflection of an artist who is returning with a clearer focus on his craft.
According to King Kaka, the album captures a renewed version of himself, with stronger writing and a wider musical approach.
“Year of the Pen is built around intentional writing, storytelling, reinvention and musical range,” he said.

The album title also reflects the importance of lyrics in his music, as King Kaka has built much of his career around rap verses that touch on everyday life, relationships and social issues.
Featured artists on the project
The album includes a number of Kenyan musicians and producers, bringing together different styles from rap, Afro-pop, R&B and urban music. Among the featured artists are Otile Brown, Iyanii, Fathermoh, Okello Max, Scar Mkadinali, Kipsang, Darasa, Kinoti, Vinc On The Beat, Emkay 64 and Moti The NRG.
The collaborations give the album a mix of voices and sounds, while still keeping King Kaka’s storytelling style at the centre of the project.
The rapper has often worked with different artists during his career, and the new album continues that approach by creating room for both established names and newer voices.

Naling’i Yo video expected next
Following the release of the album, fans are also expected to receive the official music video for Naling’i Yo, which features Okello Max. The song has been named as the focus track from the album, making it one of the projects likely to receive more attention in the coming days.
