Spider-Man Brand New Day makes Ksh22B as it targets a record opening

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has made about Ksh22 billion as it targets one of the biggest opening weekends in cinema history.
The film, which stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker and Zendaya as MJ, has already broken the preview record previously held by Avengers: Endgame.
The latest Spider-Man film made $72 million (Ksh9.3 billion) in previews on Wednesday and Thursday, July 30, 2026. The figure beat the $60 million (Ksh7.8 billion) recorded by Avengers: Endgame during its preview period.
Brand New Day has continued to perform strongly since its release, with the film bringing in $168 million (Ksh22 billion) domestically on Friday, July 31, 2026. Sony is expecting the movie to make $325 million (Ksh42 billion) during its opening weekend.
Spider-Man breaks major record
The strong start has put Brand New Day in a position to challenge one of the biggest opening weekends ever recorded. Avengers: Endgame currently holds the record with $357.1 million (Ksh47 billion) from its opening weekend.
Some industry watchers believe Brand New Day could beat that figure if its strong performance continues. Deadline estimates that the movie would need to make more than $105 million (Ksh14 billion) on August 1, 2026, to have a chance of passing Endgame’s opening record.
The Hollywood Reporter has also predicted that Brand New Day will at least move Spider-Man: No Way Home from the second position among the biggest North American film debuts.
The movie’s opening has already gone beyond the expectations that had been set before its release.
Brand New Day is Tom Holland’s fourth standalone Spider-Man movie, continuing the story of Peter Parker after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The new film follows Parker as he focuses on protecting New York City.
However, Peter is also dealing with a major change in his life. Everyone, including people who were once closest to him, has forgotten who he is.
Strong response to the new film
The film was released in cinemas on July 31, 2026 and also stars Sadie Sink alongside Holland and Zendaya. It follows Peter as he tries to live in a world where his name and identity are no longer known.
Brand New Day has also received strong early scores from moviegoers and critics. As of August 1, the film had a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 4.2 out of 5 stars on Letterboxd.
With its strong opening figures, Brand New Day is now aiming to move past Avengers: Endgame and set a new record for the biggest opening weekend in cinema history.
