Ebenezer trailer: Everything you need to know about Johnny Depp’s new horror movie

Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer for Ebenezer, a dark reimagining of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol that sees Johnny Depp take on the iconic role of Ebenezer Scrooge.
Released on Friday, July 24, 2026, the teaser introduces a supernatural thriller with horror elements, signalling a bold departure from the traditional festive adaptations of the classic story.
Directed by X and Pearl filmmaker Ti West, the movie carries the tagline, “The name you know. The story you don’t.”
Dark story twist
The trailer transports viewers to a gloomy Victorian London, where snow-covered streets, dense fog and ghostly apparitions create an unsettling atmosphere.
Rather than focusing solely on Scrooge’s redemption, the film appears to delve deeper into his haunted past while embracing supernatural horror.
The teaser features eerie visuals, chilling sound design and brief encounters with the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come, suggesting the film will blend psychological terror with the emotional themes that made Dickens’ novel a timeless classic.
Star-studded cast
Johnny Depp headlines the film as Ebenezer Scrooge, marking his return to a major studio production in one of literature’s most recognisable roles.
The cast also includes Andrea Riseborough as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Rupert Grint as Bob Cratchit, Sir Ian McKellen as Jacob Marley, Daisy Ridley and Sam Claflin in undisclosed roles.
