Content creator Maureen Waititu has defended Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, saying men of principles are victimised in the country.

She spoke on Thursday, February 12, 2026, after Sifuna was removed from his position as Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). Waititu said it is wrong for principled leaders to be pushed aside, and she expressed frustration with the situation.

“Man–this thing is just wrong,” Waititu said.

She added that Sifuna is a man of principles who stood with what is right.

“Sifuna is a man of principles, but men of principles in this country of ours are victimised for standing with what is right,” she said.

She also said, “Dang it! I hate it here.”

Sifuna’s removal from his leadership role has drawn strong reactions from political figures. The ODM Party said it replaced him with Catherine Omanyo as the party’s Secretary General following a meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC).

The party met in Mombasa and decided on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

The party’s decision

In a statement, the ODM said the NEC discussed matters related to Sifuna’s conduct before voting to remove him.

“Having deliberated on matters relating to the conduct of the Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, the NEC resolved to remove him from office with immediate effect in accordance with the Party Constitution and applicable laws,” the party’s statement reads.

The decision takes effect immediately, the party said.

Sifuna has also spoken publicly about his next steps after being ousted. On Thursday, February 12, 2026, he held a press conference where he described the party’s actions as unfair. In his emotional speech, Sifuna said he believes his removal undermines the values of the ODM. He referenced former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, saying the party’s change troubles him deeply.

“Nobody expected this, and it feels like the values we stood for are being ignored,” Sifuna said.

At the press event, he said that the party’s change of leadership is a sign of internal conflict. He said he plans to take action that aligns with his principles, but did not detail what that action will be.
