Lydia Wanjiru explains why money is her top priority when committing to a partner

Content creator Lydia Wanjiru has said that money is the number one thing that will make her commit to a partner, sparking conversation about priorities in relationships.
Speaking in an Instagram video on Saturday, March 14, 2026, she explained that at a certain point in life, people focus on what they truly need from a partner.
“Money is the number one thing that will make me get committed to you,” she said.
She added that age and experience have shaped her approach to relationships.
“But now that we are talking about it, maybe it is an age thing. It gets to a point in life where the things that are a priority to you…there are things that you can afford to do yourself. Like pay your own bills, get your money,” Lydia explained.

She said that with experience, including past relationships and even divorces, people become clearer about what they expect in a partner.
“Then there are things that you really need because at this point if you’re expecting me to commit to you…Now that we are here, we have experience, we have stayed…the people who are already divorced,” she added.
What Lydia looks for in a partner
Lydia went on to ask a question to reflect her point, noting that everyone should consider what they really want in a relationship.
“What are you looking for in your next man? What are your top 3 things that you are looking for in a man?” she asked.
She explained that for her, financial stability is the most important factor when considering a serious relationship.

“Mine is money,” she said.
She emphasised that other aspects of a partner are secondary to the ability to provide and share a secure lifestyle.
Her comments highlight how priorities change as people grow older and gain life experience. Lydia’s view is that after handling personal responsibilities and understanding one’s needs, financial security becomes a key consideration when choosing a partner.
She concluded that knowing what you want and expecting it from a partner is part of building a meaningful relationship. For Lydia, this includes financial security first, followed by other qualities that complement a stable and mature relationship.
