Lilian Ng’ang’a encourages starting parenthood at 25
Former Machakos County First Lady Lilian Ng’ang’a has suggested that 25 years could be a reasonable age to consider starting parenthood, linking it to how the human brain develops and how life decisions often become more grounded with age.
In a statement shared on her Instagram page on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, Ng’ang’a reflected on the idea that people tend to make better long-term choices once they are a bit older and more emotionally settled.
She pointed out that, in her view, by around 25 years, individuals are generally more capable of making thoughtful decisions about major life steps such as having children.
She also opened the floor for engagement, as she asked her followers about their own experiences of becoming parents, whether planned or unexpected.
“Since our prefrontal cortex matures around age 25, I’d say that from now on, we are capable of making better decisions, etc. and hence having a baby seems right. ..but things don’t always go to plan:) When did you have your first child? Was it planned? A surprise/shock, maybe?” Lilian stated.

Ng’ang’a herself became a mother in her late 30s, welcoming a child at around 37 years old after her relationship with musician Juliani. Her journey has often been public, with fans following her transition from being Machakos First Lady during her relationship with former Governor Alfred Mutua to her current life and family phase.
Her experience places her among a growing number of women who are embracing later motherhood, a trend increasingly seen in urban settings where education, career growth, and personal independence often delay family planning.
Tubal ligation
The statement comes at a time when conversations around reproductive choices, family planning, and bodily autonomy are increasingly visible online, especially among young content creators and influencers.
One such creator recently revealed she had undergone a tubal ligation, a permanent form of contraception commonly referred to as “tying tubes”, sparking wider debate about whether or not to have children at all.
Tubal ligation is a medical procedure that blocks or seals a woman’s fallopian tubes. In simple terms, it prevents eggs from reaching the uterus, meaning pregnancy cannot occur naturally. The procedure is considered permanent, though in rare cases, reversal surgery may be attempted, often without guaranteed success. Doctors usually recommend it only for people who are fully certain they do not want future pregnancies.
