Emotional scenes filled Njogune Catholic Church in Murungurune, Imenti South, on Friday, May 22, 2026, as the family of former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi held a burial service for his late daughter Anita Kendi Murungi, who died suddenly on Thursday, May 14, 2026, following a short illness.

The emotional service was attended by family members, friends, political leaders and mourners who gathered to comfort the veteran politician and his family during the painful moment.

One of the most heartbreaking moments during the requiem mass came when Kiraitu’s wife, Priscilla, emotionally paid tribute to her daughter while struggling to hold back tears.

Priscilla repeatedly broke down while delivering her emotional message, with tears rolling down her face as another woman stood beside her throughout the tribute to support and steady her whenever she appeared overwhelmed by grief.

In her emotional remarks, she described Anita as a beloved daughter whose death had left an unbearable void within the family.

She painfully questioned why her daughter had left so suddenly and without warning, saying she could only pray and hope that Anita was now in a better place.

“I will always love you. My heart is with you. Rest in peace, my dear daughter. Anita, I do not know how I will move on now. I wonder why you left us so early and without any warning. I can only pray and hope that you are in a better place as we continue to endure the unbearable pain of losing you,” she said.

Priscilla further admitted that life would never be the same again after the tragic loss, saying she would forever hold onto the memories they shared together, including Anita’s smiles, hugs and intimate mother-daughter moments.

“I pray that God will comfort us as a family. Hopefully, time will help reduce the pain, but personally, I know the scar will always remain there. Every time I remember you, I will always try to hold onto the beautiful smiles, warm hugs and intimate moments we shared together to help me move on,” she said amid tears.

She also prayed for strength and comfort for the family as they continue trying to come to terms with the painful loss, adding that although time may eventually ease the pain, the emotional scar would always remain.

“I am sure my life will never be the same again. Wherever you are, just know that I miss you so much. I will always love you with all my heart,” she added.

Anita Kendi Murungi, who was the last-born daughter in the family, fell ill shortly after returning home from a conference.

According to details previously shared by her father during funeral preparations, she had complained of a severe headache before being rushed to hospital for treatment.

Although she initially returned home after receiving medical attention, her condition suddenly worsened hours later, forcing the family to rush her back to hospital, where she later passed away.

Her unexpected death has continued to attract widespread mourning across the country, with several political leaders publicly sending messages of condolence to the Murungi family.

Among leaders who attended the requiem mass was Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, while President William Ruto was among those who publicly condoled with the family following Anita’s sudden death.
