Jackie Ogaga reveals what she learned interviewing Mbavu Destroyer post-Vurugu defeat

Obinna TV Studios interviewer Jackie Ogaga has shared her reflections after being the first journalist to interview amateur boxer Ferdinand Omondi, popularly known as Mbavu Destroyer, following his highly anticipated but disappointing loss to Protifas Odipo, better known as Majembe, during the Vurugu Fight Night.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, April 5, 2026, Ogaga described her interaction with Mbavu as eye-opening, revealing a side of the young boxer that many fans may not have seen during the high-energy buildup to the bout.
She highlighted Mbavu’s creativity, courage, and determination, describing him as someone who is constantly innovating and striving to push boundaries.
“I was the first person to interview @mbavu.254, and we have walked some parts of Vurugu. I can describe him as someone who is so innovative. He requested this fight, and here we are, a win is a win,” she wrote.
Ogaga noted that the fight had been requested by Mbavu himself, underlining his willingness to take risks to prove himself in the ring.
Despite the loss, she emphasised that a win is relative, framing the experience as part of a longer journey for the fighter.
She encouraged Mbavu to remain focused, resilient, and to stay strong for his mother, reminding him that self-belief is key to future success.
“It’s just the beginning, Osiepa. Keep pushing; it will make sense. Be strong for mum, you are who you think you are!!” Ogaga wrote.

She praised Mbavu for his attitude and spirit, noting that his willingness to challenge himself and take on high-stakes fights is an inspiration for other young athletes navigating the amateur boxing circuit in Kenya.
Vurugu Fight Night clash
The bout between Majembe and Mbavu Destroyer, dubbed the Vurugu Fight Night, was held at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on Saturday, April 4, 2026.
The match had captured national attention in Kenya due to the fighters’ viral social media rivalry, dramatic weigh-ins, and pre-fight showmanship.
Majembe, known for his technical skill and tactical approach, dominated the early rounds, while Mbavu initially employed a defensive strategy. The fight was scheduled for ten rounds but ended in the fourth after Mbavu sustained a low blow that left him unable to continue.
The referees subsequently declared Majembe the winner by unanimous decision, awarding him the prestigious Vurugu Championship Belt and cash prizes amounting to Ksh1.2 million.
The event was also notable for its extensive celebrity and political backing.
