‘I must be a soldier one day’ – Mbavu Destroyer reflects on his mother’s prayers

Kenyan boxer Ferdinand Omondi, popularly known as Mbavu Destroyer, has reflected on his childhood dreams and his mother’s prayers, revealing that he still hopes to become a soldier one day.
Mbavu shared the emotional message on Instagram on Monday, August 31, 2026, looking back at his childhood and the influence his mother had on his life.
In the post, the boxer described himself as a simple boy who grew up with dreams, while remembering the prayers and wishes his mother had for him.
He said some of the things his mother prayed for are slowly becoming a reality, giving him hope that another dream he shared with her could also come true. “Not long ago, I was only a simple boy full of dreams. I also had a mother whose wishes and prayers were always answered. I still can’t believe that one of her prayers is being answered now. I just wish this will also be true. I must be a soldier one day, Momma,” Mbavu wrote.
Mbavu praises his mother
Beyond his ambition, Mbavu used the post to celebrate his mother and the role she has played in his life. He recalled one of the lessons she taught him while growing up, saying she always reminded him that things meant to happen would eventually find their way.
“My mother always used to say, ‘If everything was meant to be, then nothing will ever stop it.’ You are my hero,” he said.
The boxer also described his mother as one of the greatest gifts in his life, saying he would choose her again even if he had another chance at life. “Even in my next life, I’d still choose my momma. She is the best gift in the whole world,” Mbavu added.
He also said he remains focused on achieving his goals, even if they may take time. “I am a man on a mission. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but one day I am going to accomplish my mission,” he said.
Mbavu’s Vurugu fight
Mbavu became widely known beyond social media after taking part in the Vurugu boxing showdown against Majembe. The highly publicised fight was held at the Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi on April 4, 2026, after weeks of rivalry between the two fighters.
The clash grew from social media exchanges into a major event, attracting thousands of fans and support from several public figures.
Majembe was declared the winner after the bout was stopped in the fourth round. The result also sparked debate after Mbavu questioned the legality of the decisive blow.
Despite the outcome, the fight gave Mbavu another platform and brought attention to his journey from social media entertainment to the boxing ring.
His latest message, however, takes a more personal turn, showing the man behind the online persona and the fighter. For Mbavu, the dream of becoming a soldier remains unfinished business.
