Gospel singer Essy Wa Willy announces bid for Mwiki MCA seat
By Steve Ireri, April 23, 2026Kikuyu gospel singer Essy Wa Willy has announced her intention to vie for the Mwiki Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in the 2027 General Election, marking her formal entry into politics.
Speaking when she joined TikTokers who were calling for the release of Facebook influencer Cukura Ya Nairobi on Thursday, April 23, 2026, Essy revealed that after careful reflection, she had decided to pursue a political path.
She stated that she will be contesting for the Mwiki MCA seat under the Democracy for Citizens Party, which is associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
“I have sat down and decided today that I will be vying for the Mwiki Ward MCA seat in the 2027 elections. I will be vying under the Democracy for Citizens Party under former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua,” she said.
Essy clarified that she is not aligning herself with the current government, emphasising that her political direction is independent and rooted in her personal convictions and experiences within the community she hopes to represent.
She explained that her decision to run for office was influenced by her long stay in Mwiki, where she said she has experienced both challenges and blessings.
According to her, the area has shaped her personal journey significantly, as she has lived there long enough to form strong community ties and friendships within Kasarani Constituency.
“I am not supporting the government. I am vying because Mwiki is a place where I have faced the most trolling, but also the same place where I witnessed my biggest blessings,” she said.

The gospel singer noted that Mwiki holds a special place in her life, saying she chose to settle there because she believes that people should remain connected to places where they have experienced growth and favour.
She added that her presence in the area has allowed her to build meaningful relationships with residents over time.
“When I came to live here, I found blessings here, and that is why I decided to settle here because if your blessings come from a certain place, you should remain there. I have made many friends here in Mwiki in Kasarani Constituency,” she said.
Essy also addressed negative perceptions about Mwiki, responding to critics who have described the area in harsh terms.
She defended the community, stating that residents embrace their environment and take pride in it despite challenges related to infrastructure and sanitation.
She further pointed out that she is not the first public figure or evangelist to reside in the area, and emphasised that Mwiki has hosted several notable individuals, including herself, who continue to call it home.
“Let Mwiki people be given respect. I saw some people saying the place smells like trash and sewage, but we like it like that. I am not the first evangelist to live here, and I am not the most famous person to have lived here,” Essy said.
