Gen Z mama mboga says she earns up to Ksh10K on a good day

Popular Gen Z vegetable vendor Scholastica Meme has opened up about her journey in the biashara ya mama mboga, revealing that her daily earnings have significantly improved over time.

Speaking during an interview with Oga Obinna on Monday, December 15, 2025, the young trader discussed her hustle, stating that she started small and initially made about Ksh2,000 a day. With consistency, experience, and a growing customer base, her income has increased.

“When I started, I would make Ksh 2000, but right now I can say Ksh 5000 to 10,000 on a good day, hiyo ni ile siku mzuri kabisa,” Scholastica said.

Despite holding a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Kenyatta University, Scholastica ventured into the vegetable vending business due to a lack of white-collar jobs.

She said that when she graduated, she thought there would be opportunities, but even after doing an internship and applying for jobs, she had not gotten any, which made her feel disappointed. However, she was still looking for a job related to her career.

“Nikigraduate, I thought kutakuwa na opportunity,hadi sijafanya internship. Niliapply lakini sikuwa na pata so I felt disappointed but am still looking for a job yenye bora inarelate to my career,” she said.

Her shop is located in Kahawa Wendani.

Why a business course

She explained that she likes business, but initially she wanted to study medicine; however, her cluster points were not enough, and she failed biology. As a result, her second option was to pursue studies in accounts, which led her to do a Bachelor of Commerce degree.

Apart from her university education, Scholarstica disclosed that she performed exceptionally well in both primary and secondary school, scoring 409 marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education out of 500 and later earning a B Plain in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.
