Fanya Mambo slams MP John Kiarie for living his fictional TV role as Ruto’s sycophant

Political activist Fanya Mambo Kinuthia has mocked Dagoretti South Member of Parliament (MP) John Kiarie alias KJ, claiming that the politician transitioned from his TV role in which he acted the part of a sycophant to the president to becoming one in real life.

In an interview with Obinna on Monday, February 2, 2026, the Fanya Mambo referred to the hit TV show, Redykyulas, in which KJ played the role of Kamotho, depicting a politician who would go to great lengths to please the president, ignoring the concerns of voters and heaping praises on the man in charge.

“A lot of people would ask: why do you want to be an MP Kwani MP wa hapo hayuko (Does the constituency have an MP?” Obinna asked.

From Kamotho on TV screens to a living one under Ruto

According to Kinuthia, Dagoretti South got a raw deal as KJ simply transitioned from his TV role as Kamotho to becoming a living one under President William Ruto.

“We are actually represented by somebody who acted as Kamotho for a very long time, and now he is living Kamotho. For anyone who watched Redyukulass show, there was somebody there whose Character was Kamotho; John KJ Kiarie,” Fanya Mambo explained.

He said that the lawmaker has been doing the same things that his character did in the show, only that this time he is doing them to Ruto and in real life.

“He acted that for a long time, Mong’are was Moi, and he was Kamotho. Today, I see William Ruto and the things KJ used to do as Kamotho, he is doing for William Ruto. So we say we just don’t need this in Dagoretti South. There has to be something different,” he said.

Fanya Mambo Kinuthia revisits KJ’s remarks during Finance Bill 2024 protests

Tearing into KJ, Fanya Mambo claimed that the MP has forgotten who his real boss is and has instead assigned Ruto the role, adding that he is not alone in making that mistake.

“His employer is the people, not the president. We have a lot of Members of Parliament  and he is not alone, who have chosen that the boss is the president. They forget who the boss is.”

He cited the MP’s remarks at the height of the Finance Bill 2024 protests to back his claims, noting that KJ went against the wishes of his constituents to back the bill and when protests broke out, the MP dismissed them, claiming that photos showing Kenyans protesting were manipulated and faked.

“When we tell you not to vote yes for the finance bill, you vote yes, then you come back and say ni photoshop, hakuna maandamano, you remember his comments,” he added.
