Eric Omondi launches new intervention after fatal floods wreaked havoc in Nairobi

Comedian Eric Omondi has launched a new initiative seeking to mitigate the impact of fatal floods in the city following last Friday’s tragedy that claimed more than forty lives.

Acknowledging the failures of the political leadership, Omondi noted that it is time for city residents to take matters into their hands and remedy the situation.

He put out a statement across his social media platforms on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, announcing the new initiative dubbed Fagilia Nairobi.

“Nairobi is our home; we will not WAIT anymore. We will act to prevent further death and destruction,” he declared.

Objective of Fagilia Nairobi initiative

Earlier on, Omondi traversed the city and established that uncollected garbage and blocked drainage are contributing significantly to flooding in the city.

He urged residents to turn up in large numbers for a cleaning exercise that will clear garbage off the streets, opening up drainages for rainwater to flow freely.

Those who want to take part will convene at Uhuru Park, with the exercise expected to target major roads and key chokepoints of the city’s drainage.

“Let’s all meet at Uhuru Park this Saturday at 8 am. Carry a broom, a rake, a glove and a mask. Comment with #FagiaNairobi if you’ll be joining us. SEE YOU SATURDAY,” Omondi stated.

Omondi’s verdict on cause of floods in Nairobi

Following the fatal floods that wreaked havoc in the city, the comedian visited flood-prone areas across the city to understand why residents continue to lose their lives whenever heavy rains hit the capital.

“Today I visited all the Flood Hot Spots in Nairobi to try and figure out what the Problem is and what the possible solutions are. I have spent the whole day in Nairobi city trying to find out kwa nini watu wanakufa; every year, we must lose people. This Friday, we lost 25 people. What is the cause, and what is the solution?” Omondi disclosed.

In addition to the city’s poor preparedness to handle floods and its infrastructure, the comedian established that the main causes of the recurring floods are poor drainage systems and garbage blocking water channels across the city.

“The cause is very simple: drainage and garbage. As usual, the Problem is Negligence and Corruption from leaders, but that will soon be a thing of the past. There will be a new Kenya,” Omondi declared.
