Emotions run high as Catherine Wambugu’s employee Terry is laid to rest

Emotional breakdowns were witnessed on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, as the late Terry, an employee of Wambugu Apples, was laid to rest in a sombre burial ceremony attended by family members, friends, colleagues, and members of the local community.
The burial programme began at the Kenyatta University (KU) Mortuary, where mourners gathered early to view her body ahead of the final journey home.
The moment proved overwhelming for some members of her family, with a few collapsing after viewing her body, prompting those present to step in and offer assistance as emotions ran high.
Following the mortuary proceedings, the cortege travelled to Murang’a County for the burial service at her rural home. Upon arrival, grief continued to grip mourners as they assembled under tents for the main service.
The ceremony was marked by emotional tributes, with speakers recalling Terry’s life, character, and the role she played both at home and in her workplace.
Several speakers described her as hardworking, committed, and deeply devoted to her responsibilities, noting that her sudden death had left a painful void.

Her white casket was placed under a tent in the open sun as clergy led the service.
Preachers delivered sermons centered on faith, hope, and comfort, urging mourners to remain steadfast and draw strength from God while guiding the congregation through prayers and reflections.
Tragic crash
The tragic accident that killed Terry occurred on Monday, January 19, 2026, along the Nyeri-Nyahururu Highway, when their car, a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, collided head-on with a Mitsubishi Canter lorry.
The force of the impact left both vehicles extensively damaged, with the Prado sustaining severe damage from the front driver’s side to the rear, while the lorry’s driver’s side was completely destroyed.
Their boss, Catherine, survived the crash with minor injuries, including scrapes and bruises on her face, but Terry and another employee, namely Dominic, lost their lives.
Catherine’s PA
While sharing how loss has gutted her since Terry and Dominic died, Catherine, speaking during an interview on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, opened up about the critical role Terry played in her life and work.
She described Terry as far more than just an employee, saying that laying her to rest would mark the loss of a close friend, a prayer partner and a trusted personal assistant.
The agripreneur noted that Terry had worked closely with her for many years and had become an integral part of both her professional and spiritual life.
“Even as we lay her to rest, I want to say that for me, I am laying to rest a friend, a prayer partner, and my personal assistant,” she shared.
Wambugu disclosed that Terry served as her personal assistant and worked with deep devotion, commitment and faithfulness.
She added that beyond business, they had also served together in ministry, revealing that their journey as servants of God spanned more than 14 years.
“I am laying to rest a woman who has been very close to me, someone we have come very far with, and someone who worked for me in the most dedicated way,” she narrated.
She further stated that Terry carried out her duties diligently and wholeheartedly, describing her as someone who worked with sincerity, loyalty and love.
Wambugu noted that although Terry’s death has left a deep void, she finds comfort in the belief that her late employee has gone to be with her maker.
“Personally, I want to reveal that Terry worked for me with all the devotion of her heart. We have also been in ministry together, serving God for over 14 years. So, I am laying to rest someone who knew me very well and someone I knew deeply. Even though she has died, she has gone to be with her Maker,” she shared.
