Gospel singer Edith Wairimu has shared an emotional tribute ahead of the burial of her father, Mr Livingstone Mwaura Njeri, revealing that he battled illness for six years before his death.

In a Facebook message on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Edith reflected on the pain and strength the family endured during her father’s long health journey, noting that in 2020, doctors had given him only three months to live after his condition worsened.

She said the family went through a difficult period marked by prayer, fasting, and emotional struggle as they held onto hope despite the medical prognosis.

“Dad fought for 6 years. 6 years of everything life could throw at us. 6 years of bouncing back every time! In 2020, he was told he had 3 months to live. Oh! We prayed! We fasted! We cried! And the God of Hezekiah added 6 more years to His life. I’m not saying the doctor was wrong,” she wrote.

Edith stated that against expectations, her father lived for an additional six years, describing it as a testimony of faith and divine intervention, saying she believes God extended his life beyond what doctors had predicted.

“I’m saying there’s a God who can defy medicine and what medics say. Tonight, we celebrate the life of this man by lighting candles for him. Tonight, we thank God for his life. I’m not saying that because of these 6 years it’s easy. It’s very hard. Very hard,” she added.

She also shared details of the burial arrangements, announcing that the body will be collected from the PCEA Kikuyu Hospital mortuary on Thursday morning before being taken home for the final funeral rites.

According to the programme, the burial will begin at 11:00 am after the body arrives at the home at around 10:30 am, following a series of movements from the morgue starting at 8:00 am.

Candle lighting vigil

Edith further revealed that the family held a candlelight vigil in honour of her father, where friends and relatives gathered to celebrate his life and offer support.

She described her father as a God-fearing man, a giver, a disciplinarian, and a family-orientated individual who valued privacy and instilled discipline within the household.

“Anyone who has gone through it can tell you firsthand. But tonight we celebrate what God has done through his life. This man, Boys. This man, Desmond. This man is Livingstone Mwaura Njeri. He was such a wonderful man, I wish everyone had met him,” she wrote.

Edith added that his character shaped the family’s quiet and composed nature, noting that they learned to handle challenges with grace, just as he taught them.

She emotionally stated that although her father had fought a long and difficult battle with illness, she believes he did not lose, saying she feels Jesus took over the battle and he is now resting.

“A Godly man; a giver, a family man; a disciplinarian. He treasured secrecy; no wonder we are all so conservative in my family.  We bore everything quietly and with Grace, because that’s what he taught us.  You fought Dad. And you didn’t lose. No, Jesus took over that battle; so you can rest now. My dad… I love you. I love you so much. Rest in Jesus, Dad,” Edith wrote.
