Unapeleka Ng’ombe ngapi: Butita questions value of Charlene Ruto’s dowry

Comedian Eddie Butita has questioned what her husband-to-be could bring as dowry that would impress the family, especially when it comes to cows.
In a video shared on Instagram on Saturday, August 8, 2026, Butita congratulated Charlene before wondering what Isaya Yunge had presented as bride price.
“Congratulations, Charlene, hii story ya Charlene imefanya nianze kujiuliza hii concept ya dowry, inakuanga ya kila mtu ama ma sufferer,” Butita said.

The comedian then focused on President William Ruto’s cows, joking that finding enough cows that are not already at the president’s home could be a challenge. He noted that the President regularly posts cows, making the traditional dowry question even more interesting in Charlene’s case.
Butita jokes about the dowry
Butita continued with his playful take on the kind of celebration Charlene’s engagement could be. He imagined a ceremony where a large group of cows could be involved, joking about the difference between the number brought and the number eventually mentioned at the event.
“Nataka tu kujua juu huyu msee anaoa Charlene, ni nini anaweza peleka kwa kina Charlene mpaka waseme mahari ameleta? Kwa sababu kama ni ng’ombe, president hupost ng’ombe kila weekend, hata jana walipost ng’ombe, so unampelekea ngombe ngapi zenye haziko pale?” Butita said.

He then joked that such celebrations require guests to be ready for anything. Butita also brought up the issue of gifts, saying some items can be difficult to handle when they are brought in large numbers.
Jokes about Daddy Owen
Butita then made a cheeky reference to the gospel musician. He then burst out laughing immediately after mentioning Daddy Owen.
“And Daddy Owen, eiiiii…” Butita said while laughing.
The Daddy Owen reference comes from a previous moment involving Charlene. In 2024, the gospel musician shared photos of Charlene during her visit to his rural home in Kakamega after they had shared several pictures together and other photos together later again.
The photos led to speculation that the two were dating at the time. Daddy Owen later said that he and Charlene were just friends, while Charlene is now celebrating her engagement to her husband-to-be.
Butita’s latest joke brought that old connection back into the conversation, this time as part of his playful remarks about Charlene’s big day.
