Teacher Cillah has hit back at people who have been insisting that wealthy people cannot marry those they consider poor, questioning who exactly qualifies as poor in her case.

Speaking in a TikTok video on Sunday, August 16, 2026, the teacher, who has been in the spotlight over her playful social media exchanges with George Ruto, said she found it amusing that some people had started identifying her as poor despite her being a teacher.

“Now people are all over saying the rich cannot marry the poor. In this case, who is poor? I wonder. I am a teacher, and you are calling me poor. A whole teacher. Haha, it is funny,” she said.

Cillah said the label had instead strengthened her determination to improve her life, explaining that one of the reasons she continued working hard was to prove that those describing her as poor were wrong.

“One of the thousand reasons I want to make it in life is because people are identifying me as poor,” she said.

She then questioned whether she appeared poor to those making the claims, jokingly challenging them to reconsider how they viewed her.

“Do I look like the poor? I mean, you all are not even afraid of me,” she said.

Cillah maintained that she would continue working hard and pushing herself until the day people stopped associating her with poverty.

“One day you will stop calling me poor. Let me keep working hard and pushing,” she said.

Flirty exchanges

The remarks came against the backdrop of Cillah’s increasingly public social media exchanges with George Ruto, which began after she repeatedly left playful comments on his Instagram posts, complimenting his appearance and calling him handsome.

Her comments eventually caught George’s attention, with the President’s son responding by asking her to provide her Teachers Service Commission number.

Ebu TSC number niconfirm kitu,” George wrote.

The response sent Cillah into excitement, with the teacher joking that George’s interest in her TSC number could mean he wanted to know more about her.

Cillah later took the playful exchange further by imagining a possible future with him, including George arriving in a G-Waggon and the two starting a school together.

She also joked about their imagined wedding, saying the guests would be so excited that the tents might not even need to be placed on the ground.

She later revealed that she had already selected a song for the fictional wedding and joked about changing her name to “Mrs George K Ruto”, before shortening it to “Mrs GK”.

The social media exchange was revived when George later asked his followers who Cillah was, joking that he had been in Kilgoris, where there was no network.

Cillah responded playfully, saying she understood why George might have appeared unaware of her after spending time away from Nairobi.

Anasema ndio kurudi jiji, welcome back. We missed you. Kilgoris hakukuwa na network. I understand these things. I really understand them. Ati, teacher Cillah ni nani? Akacheka na panga,” she said.

She jokingly insisted that George already knew who she was and even suggested that people did not understand the position she believed she held in his life.

“You want me to reintroduce myself again? Unaona ata wewe hao watu hawajui who I am and the position I hold in your life; they do not understand,” she added.
