The music world is mourning the loss of one of its most prolific behind-the-scenes figures.

Grammy-nominated record producer Tay Keith, born Brytavious Chambers, was found dead on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at his apartment on Martin Street in Nashville, Tennessee. He was 29 years old.

Officers from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department made the discovery during a welfare check at his home. Police confirmed that no foul play is suspected, though the cause of death remains unclassified pending autopsy results.

The man behind the hits

Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Tay Keith built one of hip-hop’s most impressive production résumés while still in his twenties.

His breakthrough came with BlocBoy JB’s Look Alive, a collaboration that started when the two met at just 14 years old, before he shot to global recognition with Travis Scott’s 2018 smash Sicko Mode, which earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.

His fingerprints are on some of the biggest records of the streaming era. He co-produced Drake’s Nonstop, lent his sound to Eminem’s Not Alike, and added a track to Beyoncé’s Homecoming: The Live Album. Across his career, Tay Keith racked up four number-one records on the Billboard Hot 100.

More recently, he had been active in the studio – producing Jack Harlow’s Just Us featuring Doja Cat in 2025, as well as credits on Megan Thee Stallion’s 2024 album Megan and tracks with Chris Brown, Sexyy Red, and GloRilla.

Tributes pour in

News of his passing drew an outpouring of grief from the music community.

His longtime collaborator BlocBoy JB posted a series of emotional tributes on Instagram Stories, sharing a photo of the two alongside screenshots of their frequent daily calls.
