Peter Salasya explains why he said he didn’t know Harriet Njenga
By William Muthama, July 14, 2026Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has explained why he said he did not know his social media manager, Harriet Njenga, during a Milele FM interview, a response that sparked a public fallout between the two.
Speaking in a recent interview, Salasya said he was not prepared to discuss Njenga during the conversation because he had gone to the station to address national issues.
He explained that the question caught him off guard and that he had not expected to be asked about their working relationship.
“The conversation was not supposed to be brought up because we had so many issues to address. In fact, I didn’t prepare myself to talk about her. I only prepared to discuss national issues,” Salasya said.
The MP added that he felt cornered by the question and acknowledged that his response affected Njenga.
“I was cornered and maybe she didn’t get it right. She was to react the same. I didn’t plan for that,” he said.
Praises her role
Salasya praised Njenga’s work, describing her as a dedicated professional who had stood by him throughout his political journey.
He recalled how she accompanied his team during nationwide travels, including Mombasa, Ukambani, Taita Taveta, Western Kenya and Mount Kenya.
“We have been working with her for almost like three years. Every year she has been with me,” he said.

Salasya also credited Njenga with helping rebuild his digital presence after his TikTok account with more than one million followers was banned.
He said Njenga handed him a backup account that had about 100,000 followers, which they worked on until it grew to nearly 330,000 followers.
Clearing the air on their relationship, Salasya maintained that their connection had always been professional.
“It’s been about work,” he said, adding that Njenga was a go-getter who played a key role in managing his online platforms.
Fallout and reconciliation
The remarks came after Salasya was asked during the radio interview about rumours linking him romantically with Njenga, who had worked as his social media manager and was part of his Salasya TV team.
His response that he did not know Njenga left her disappointed, leading to her resignation from his media team.
Njenga later clarified that her issue was not about denying claims of a romantic relationship, but feeling unrecognised after working closely with Salasya for nearly three years.
Salasya later apologised and acknowledged her contribution, offering her a new contract with improved terms.
