Pastor Kanyari says he has regained custody of his children after speaking out
Pastor Victor Kanyari has announced that he has regained custody of his two children, Sky Victor and Danivictor, following an emotional public plea over their welfare.
The custody row became public after Kanyari claimed he had been denied access to his children following the death of his former wife, gospel singer Betty Bayo, in November 2025.
He accused Betty’s widower, Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash, of failing to properly care for the children and called for public intervention.
Speaking during a church service on Sunday, June 28, 2026, Kanyari said the children are now with him, though he noted that the situation is still sensitive as they continue to recover from past events.
Public support impact
Kanyari credited several public figures for speaking out during the custody dispute, saying their intervention helped move the matter forward.
He specifically thanked musician Akothee, gospel artist Eko Dydda and Geoffrey Mosiria, saying their public comments played a role in the outcome.
“Ningependa sana kushukuru Akothee, Eko Dydda na Mosiria kwani walikuwa wanapiga makelele. Mambo yameanza kuwa mazuri, hata kama si 100 per cent,” he said.

He also thanked Betty’s UK-based friend, Shiru Stuart, for supporting the family following the singer’s death and speaking out during the custody dispute.
The preacher said that although the children are now under his care, they are still emotionally affected and hesitant to appear in public.
“Saa hii niko nao, lakini wanaogopa camera,” he said, adding that he is prioritising their healing over public visibility.
He urged Kenyans to be patient and continue praying for the children as they adjust to the new arrangement.
“Tuendelee kuwaombea ili mawazo mabaya yasiwaingie. Wana mambo wanahitaji kusahau. Healing is a process,” he added.
Kanyari also explained that he had spent time with the children over the weekend and is focused on helping them settle into a stable environment.
